Amy Zaccaria Martino, MD

About

Dr. Martino is a fellowship-trained glaucoma and cataract surgeon who also performs comprehensive eye examinations. She attended college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received her B.S. in Biology and graduated summa cum laude. During college, she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest academic honor society. She attended medical school at the University of South Florida, and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha national honor medical society. She continued at University of South Florida for both her Internship training in pediatrics and her Residency training in ophthalmology. She then performed her glaucoma Fellowship training at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the number one eye hospital in the country. Her surgical talents include cataract surgery using premium intraocular lens implants, as well as glaucoma lasers and surgeries (such as trabeculectomies and glaucoma drainage devices). She recently became one of the first surgeons in Florida to implant the glaucoma iStent® device, the world’s smallest medical implant.

Dr. Martino is also a staff physician at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, where she takes pride in serving those who have served our country. As a graduate of the University of South Florida, she enjoys giving lectures to the current ophthalmology residents. She volunteers her time through the Eye Care America program, Brandon Outreach Clinic, and Catholic Charities Medical Missions to help underprivileged patients receive eye care. She is the co-author of a book entitled Eye Was There. She has presented her research at various scientific meetings across the globe, and her research has been published in the Journal of Glaucoma. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, the Florida Society of Ophthalmology, the Florida Glaucoma Society, and the Tampa Bay Ophthalmological Society.
